Space for the laboratories of the future

Future Labs Live 2025 brought together the international laboratory, research and life sciences community in Basel. SYMA worked with the organiser, Terrapinn, to set up the event and exhibition spaces at the Congress Centre Basel.

The event format combines a specialist conference, an exhibition, a start-up platform and networking opportunities. The requirements for the spatial design are correspondingly diverse: exhibition spaces, communication and meeting zones, as well as various event areas, must function within a shared overall concept whilst also allowing for efficient set-up.

Future Labs Live centred on topics that are fundamentally transforming the world of laboratories: automation and robotics, artificial intelligence, digitalisation, data management, networked laboratory infrastructures, sustainability and efficient laboratory processes.

This thematic diversity was also reflected in the exhibition. Around 100 companies presented technologies and solutions for the laboratories of the future, complemented by numerous start-ups and an extensive conference programme featuring around 200 speakers.

With 3,730 attendees, the 2025 edition set a new visitor record, making it the most successful Future Labs Live event in Basel to date. Experts from the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, research, laboratory technology and other sectors made the most of the two-day event for knowledge sharing, product presentations and networking.

For SYMA, the project highlights another facet of the events business: temporary event and exhibition structures for a growing international conference format, where efficient processes, flexibility and reliable execution are crucial.

Future Labs Live is part of a long-term development by Terrapinn at its Basel site. The international event organiser has continuously expanded its life sciences formats in recent years, growing each one to attract several thousand participants.
